Update 6/12/18: Our original post said that Crazy Justice would be the first Battle Royale game to come to the Nintendo Switch. With the surprise release of Fortnite, this is no longer the case, so we’ve updated the post to reflect this.

There are plenty of new games on the horizon for the Nintendo Switch, but most of Nintendo’s biggest titles either don’t yet have release dates or won’t be releasing for a few more months. Luckily, that’s hardly an issue given the ever-growing list of Nindies. It seems like every other day a new title is being announced for Nintendo’s comeback console, many of which are “coming soon.” Here are the five I’m most excited about.
5. Reigns: Kings and Queens – “Summer 2018”

Announced for the Nintendo Switch during the Nindies Showcase Spring 2018, Reigns: Kings and Queens puts players on a throne and allows them to become as benevolent or malevolent a ruler as they choose. The gameplay revolves around swiping left or right to approve or deny prompts, or requests, from your advisors and underlings. It looks to be a short experience, and if the reviews on Steam and mobile platforms can be believed, a fun one to boot.
4. Crazy Justice – “2018”

Though still in development with no release date to speak of besides “2018,” Crazy Justice is a cel-shaded third person shooter with steampunk elements that was crowd-sourced on fig, a sort of kickstarter for video games. Recently, they announced that the game will land on the Nintendo Switch with a Battle Royale mode, making it the very first announced for the Nintendo Switch. For this reason, and because of both the extreme and sudden rise in popularity of Battle Royale games, not to mention my own personal love of the mobile version of PUBG, I’m pretty pumped.
3. Pode – Available Now!

This cute, narrative-driven puzzler looks to be a sweet story about a fallen star who’s working together with a friendly rock to get him back up into the sky. Pode’s got gorgeous graphics, a promising story, and is also co-operative. It was announced during the Nindies Showcase Spring 2018, and should be arriving sometime in the next few weeks.
2. Light Fingers – “2018”

Announced during the Nindies Showcase Summer 2017, this game was originally supposed to be released by the end of 2017. The game’s developers over at Nimizmatic are still being vague about when the game will actually release, but we keep hearing nothing but glowing reviews from those rare few who’ve been able to get their hands on it at various gaming conventions over the past year. Light Fingers is described as a magical clock-based board game played by thieves after a long day of thieving, and it looks to be a promising party game to play with friends and family.
1. Bad North – Available Now!

Another game announced during the Nindies Showcase Spring 2018, Bad North is a self-described minimalistic real-time tactics rogue-like that looks fun as hell. The premise is that your home is being attacked by vikings, your king has been killed, and it’s up to you to assume the crown and lead your troops to survival. It’s being developed by a brand new independent game studio called Plausible Concept and is being published by the people behind Kingdom: New Lands. Long story short: it’s got a lot of promise, and a lot of heart, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.
